GUCCI’S CHIME FOR CHANGE: HOW FASHION IS FUELING PHILANTHROPY
By: Prachi Khatri
Gucci is an iconic brand that comes to mind when we talk about high-end fashion, runway shows, red carpet glamour and chic style. The double-G logo is hard to miss when we think of high-end powerful fashion. But behind the effortless style and trending fashion, Gucci is transforming lives through its philanthropic initiatives. The brand is not just about what you wear; it stands as a global change-maker through a powerful initiative called CHIME for Change.
Gucci’s CHIME is a global campaign to convene, unite and strengthen the voices speaking out for gender equality. It helps to fund many non-profit organizations across the world that align with making the world a better place for all women.
Launched in 2013 in partnership with celebrity co-founders Salma Hayek Pinault and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, CHIME for Change brings people together across borders to fight for gender equality. According to a 2022 report published by UN Women, it could take about 300 years to achieve full gender equality at the current rate of progress.

Gucci CHIME seeks to amplify and support those fighting for gender justice. To date, the campaign has raised over 21.5 million USD and supported 500 projects across various continents. Through this campaign, Gucci has partnered with 185 nonprofit organizations across 90 counties, touching the lives of thousands of women and girls.
Even in this 21st century, 119 million girls are still out of school globally and 39 percent of young women don’t finish upper secondary education. As per 2025 data published in UN Women, one woman or girl is killed every 10 minutes at the hand of a partner or close relative. Campaigns like CHIME for Change makes a huge impact on the lives of women lacking education and resources to speak for their rights.

Gucci’s campaign is unique as it brings in creative space together to make a difference by storytelling through its designs, fundraising and using its brand’s power to do good for the world. It is a great initiative where couture meets conscience.
To further the impact, Gucci partnered with UN Women’s Generation Equality Action Coalition as a private lead on Feminist Movement and Leadership in 2021. As per Gucci Equilibrium website data, nearly 635,000 women and girls have benefited from the campaign projects through CHIME and have reached 3 million families and community members.
Some of the targeted social issues CHIME has focused on include child marriage in India, gender-based violence in Latin America, access to education for girls in Malawi and reproductive health in the United States. The campaign not only supports these issues financially but also invests in ideas and collaborates with organizations to help support women and children for a better future. The brand releases limited edition collections and collaborates with designers to support Gucci’s CHIME. Proceeds of all sales from these collections go directly to the CHIME initiatives for their mission to listen and uplift.
Thanks to Gucci’s CHIME, people have access to clean and safe water in Burundi, a landlocked country in South Africa. Women are speaking up for injustice, protesting to get equal rights and the campaign is certainly encouraging others in the industry to take a stand with a cause.
There is so much power and influence that comes from brands like Gucci who commit to social justice and bring purpose to fashion. The world can be a scary place for women and there is still a long way to go. Gucci is standing up for women’s equal representation is creating more opportunity for equality, justice, opportunity, dignity and strength as ONE.
