DIPPIN’ DAISY’S INCLUSIVE, SUSTAINABLE MODEL CHANGES THE WAY WE THINK ABOUT SWIMWEAR
By: Erica Commisso
Dippin’ Daisy’s is perfectly placed to be the modern woman’s dream swimsuit: The brand makes everything sustainably, is size-inclusive, and is wallet-friendly. One click on the website proves it: There is no shortage of models of all shapes and sizes showing off shapes and silhouettes for every style and comfort level, from bikini shorts to thong suits to one-pieces and everything in between.
The women-owned business has achieved a unique equilibrium in terms of its business model: Every Dippin’ Daisy’s piece is made from recycled fabrics, ensuring a sustainably made and chic swimsuit for every guest. But what’s most impressive is that the brand has new drops every three weeks, offering limited quantities of each design to make them more exclusive and decrease the brand’s environmental footprint.

Today, thanks to its model of affordable, sustainable luxury, Dippin’ Daisy’s is one of the fastest-growing swimwear brands in the United States. The brand’s core values are rooted in female empowerment, size inclusivity and sustainability, making it a modern day example of conscientious fashion. Especially impressive is that the brand is just over a decade old, having been founded in 2015. The goal, at the time, was simple: To create a swimwear brand that makes people feel like the best version of themselves and allow them to express their inner divine feminine.
More than just using recycled fabrics, Dippin’ Daisy’s production model takes sustainability one step further, donating all excess and scrap fabric through a partnership with Terracycle to ensure that even the leftover materials are recycled and made new again. It also ships its swimsuits in eco-friendly packaging that has a low impact on the environment. It’s all done with intention and purpose, putting sustainability at the forefront to prove that trends don’t have to mean negative environmental impact.

It’s evident in every piece of the swimwear: The adjustable strap sliders are made from lead-free, non-toxic metal, the bra inserts are made from recycled foam, the elastics are made from organic and natural rubber trees, and each suit is hand-sewn in the brand’s family-owned factories in Los Angeles and Vietnam. Owning the factories allows the brand to combat clear waste patterns in the fashion industry–factories creates 30% of fabric waste which is then thrown into landfills. Instead, Dippin’ Daisy’s recycles fabric waste into insulation, creating a more circular fashion model. It also allows the brand to only make what it needs, combating the fast fashion model and therefore reducing its waste.
At the moment, Dippin’ Daisy’s is working on another sustainable innovation, developing a process that allows the brand to recycle its fabric waste into yarn to be used for new materials for swimsuits that will then create a circular system. The brand’s founder, Elaine, is a chemist, and she herself works to develop the materials, ensuring that the process is low carbon, environmentally friendly, and using recycled pre- and post-consumer fabrics.
Through conscious production every step of the way, Dippin’ Daisy’s aims to interact with the modern female consumer: one who feels empowered, one who isn’t defined by shape or size, and one who is conscious of her planet.
